The Integrated National Board Dental Examination (INBDE) Exam is a new examination for dental licensure that is scheduled to replace the current National Board Dental Examination (NBDE) Part I and Part II examinations.

The INBDE Exam is a two-day examination administered on a computer. Day 1 consists of 360 test items (3 sets of 100 standalone items, 1 set of 60 case questions). Day 2 includes 140 test items (2 sets of 70 case questions). The total exam administration time is 12 hours and 30 minutes, including the tutorial, scheduled breaks, and a survey.

INBDE Exam Preparation with DentaBest: Your Path to Success

The INBDE exam consists of 500 total items. Previously, students had to complete 900 questions between the NBDE Part I and Part II exams. This new exam will emphasize synthesis and understanding of clinical concepts through integration of dental and basic sciences, rather than rote memorization and recall.

Additional focus will be placed on evaluating examinees' decision-making skills and preparedness for safe, professional practice of dentistry.

The 500 exam questions will cover the Domain of Dentistry, which is represented through a set of Clinical Content areas and Foundation Knowledge areas that are required for the safe, independent, general practice of dentistry by entry-level practitioners. The Domain of Dentistry serves as the key reference for the INBDE test specifications.

  1. Molecular, biochemical, cellular and system level development
  2. Physics and chemistry to explain normal biology and pathobiology
  3. Physics and chemistry to explain the characteristics and use of technologies and materials
  4. Principles of genetic, congenital and development diseases and conditions and their clinical features to understand patient risk
  5. Cellular and molecular bases of immune and non-immune host defense mechanism
  6. General and disease-specific pathology to assess patient risk
  7. The biology of microorganisms in physiology and pathology
  8. Pharmacology
  9. Behavioral sciences, ethics and jurisprudence
  10. Research methodology and analysis, and informatics tools
